Hold Political Dialogue
On 5 November 2010, representatives of the East African Community (EAC) and the European Union (EU) held a dialogue meeting and exchanged views on the region's political and economic integration agenda and the forthcoming EU-Africa Summit amongst others.
The EAC and EU are committed to dialogue. The principle of dialogue is enshrined in the Cotonou Agreement which specifically recognises the role of regional organisations like the EAC, in this dialogue.
The meeting took place at Umoja House, Dar es Salaam and counted on the participation of Ambassador Juma V. Mwapachu, Secretary General of the EAC; the Right Honourable Abdirahin H. Abdi, Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly; the Honourable Justice Harold R. Nsekela, Judge President of the East African Court of Justice and Honourable Beatrice B. Kiraso, Deputy Secretary General, on the EAC side and the EU Heads of Missions accredited to the EAC. The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador Mwapachu, Secretary General of the EAC and Ambassador Tim Clarke, Head of the EU Delegation.
